The War
Stalingrad, the Berezina, the Baltic — the road of a Guards tank brigade.
From a regiment to a Guards brigade
In 1942 Aslanov commanded a separate tank regiment, which won Guards status for its steadfastness and courage. In April 1943 he took over the 35th Guards Tank Brigade and led it until his death. In March 1944 he was promoted to Major General of tank troops.
His brigade was at the spearhead of the largest operations: Stalingrad, the Battle of the Dnieper, the liberation of Belarus and the Baltic. Aslanov's tankmen were famed for swift strikes and skill in the breakthrough.

The first Hero title
At Stalingrad Aslanov's regiment played an important part in encircling and destroying the enemy. For those battles, on 22 December 1942, Hazi Aslanov was made a Hero of the Soviet Union. It was here too that his reputation as a master of the tank strike was born.
